07.28.10
Smokin Blindfold came in for their first day of rocking  With a bunch of heads together we made some good progress.  Later in the night we were working with a R&B Pop writer person named Symphony Wells.  Fun day!  The stupid meter on the stupid Avalon stopped working today so I guess it gets to go get a tune up.  I think we are days away from ordering a new computer too!  Just in time for this other new background music for a TV show project to start.
Here are some images from last weeks session with Ian Shepherd on drums for Bruce Smith's project.  Sorry for the super pro quality from my BlackBerry Storm...:(

07.26.10
All sorts of new projects starting and other ones finishing.  Dan Grause is done with his EP.  Just waiting for the physical master to get back from Dallas.  Larry & The Messengers came in and did a bunch of songs in a couple nights...southern gospel style!  Skyler has had bands in night and day.  Envy Corps. is in working on new tunes in preparation of their new recording endeavor. Bruce Smith just had Ian Shepherd come play on some jazz tunes.   Smokin Blindfold is coming in for a couple days work.  Greg Harris came in and did some tester stuff.  He'll be coming in the fall with his producer to lay down some vocals.  Pluggin away at Bonne Finkens new stuff.  It's gonna be fuuun fuun fuuuuuunnnn...
I think we're gonna get rid of the Sega Turbo game.  I want Mario Kart back.  So we'll have Nintendo, Nintendo 64, and Atari 2600 hooked back up soon.  Helps get some real serious work done.
We've starting working with IPTV on a new project.  More info to come.

07.06.10
Busy, busy, busy around here.  Projects coming in, projects going out.  You can always tell when it's busy, the blog falls behind and there aren't any new craigslist ads from us.  Usonia is about mixed and done.  It sounds friggin hot.  Larry & The Messengers are basically done and off to mastering.  Skyler has had a few bands in like Faces Turned Ashen and Darren Challa just to name a couple.  Bright Giant has been in rehearsing for a new record.  The Envy Corps is rehearsing for a new record.  We are working on a new record for Bonne Finken.  Jara Johnson came in to do a quick version of The Star Spangled Banner.  Katelyn Epperly has come in to demo a couple things.  Basically it's just been busy around here.  I haven't even mentioned the groups Tony has been working with...

05.27.10
I haven't written in a while so I thought a quick update would be in order.  New gear, new projects, busy times around here.  We have Larry & The Messangers, Blue Island Tribe, Dan Grause, Tony B,  Steve Robinson & The Foundation, Bonne Finken, Rumi Mgmnt, Johnny Reeferseed, Sam Wolff, Colt Ball...and others, have started or are in the middle of projects.  There is going to be another IPTV project starting soon too.  All that being said, there is plenty of room for you to get in here and record some stuff.

This 1920's Edison was picked up recently.  It came with one record which is now on the Lost & Found Page

04.08.10
   Coram Deo is done and
out the door.  An Airbag Saved My Life is coming back in to do some stuff with Skyler.  Some blasts from the pasts have come in to do some recording.  One is Ken Mayfield.  He came in a year or so ago and did a couple tracks.  Sounds like he might come do more with his new group.  Sounds like Johnny Reeferseed might finish up their record here.
We've added a new section called Lost & Found.  Jon frequents garage sales and estate sales.  This little section will contain some of the random goodies he finds.  This first batch of tapes is pretty interesting.  They came from Victor Jackovich.  He seemed to have been quite a talent and later became an ambassador for some country.

03.19.10
Coram Deo is done...minus a couple last tweaks.  From what I hear, Cashes Rivers is down to the last couple things.  Supposedly its as good as almost done.  James is getting ready to do some guitar for Clayton Jacobs' EP.  Those tracks are coming along nicely.
We got two API EQ's.  They are magic.  It's nice to have a nice pair of EQ's finally.  We have some niiiice analog gear now.  Come check out all the stuff.
Steve Robinson and The Foundation are wrapping up tracking this weekend it sounds like.  I hear mixing will start soon.
Couple other mixing projects coming through the studio too.  One from Wisconsin and one from New York.  We haven't forgot about Blue Island Tribe.  We are waiting on some guitar parts from Phoenix while we spruce up the tracks that are already recorded.

03.08.10
New gear is hooked up and in use.  The Sta-Level is plugged in, the Tascam 38 is up and running. and the Executone stuff is cleaned out and kicking.

With all the projects going on and gear coming in and out the door, the studio tends to looked "lived in".  Even with Skyler picking up after everyone.

Coram Deo is getting prepped for mixing.  It's going to be a combo of analogue and in-the-box mixing.  I keep hearing Cashes RIvers is just about done, but we'll see ;)

03.02.10
There is now a real Gates Sta-Level in the studio.  Gear gear gear gear...need to get some new pictures so you can see some of the new setups.
Skyler had the POW's and An Airbag Saved My Life in, different nights, overnights and got some tracks down.  They were doing the 10pm to whenever am shift.

02.20.10
Bonne FInken is officially working on a new record.  We have been getting all the scratch tracks down.  Blue Island Tribe is in finishing up some tracks they started in Phoenix.  The POW's are coming in to do some night work with Skyler, so is An Airbag Saved My Life.  Templeton Rye is coming in to do some voiceovers.  Cashes Rivers is juuusssst about done.  Ryan Knorr was in working with Tony.  Basically there is just a ton of stuff going on.
Luke from The Envy Corps "accidentally" unplugged the Sega Turbo game so the scores are reset.  Accidentally...
We can import and export OMF files.  If you have sessions in other programs, we can open them and get them ready for any ProTools studio.

02.14.10
It is fun fun fun around here.  More new unique gear.

02.10.10
All I can say is Blue Island Tribe can try to take my score, but will never succeed.  Ever.  1st place is locked in.  Come check out the studio and play our 1981 Sega Turbo game.

01.09.10
The new synth room is coming together.  Here is just a taste of what's all back there.  There seems to be something new back there everytime I go back there.

01.07.09
Here is a look at the main compressor choices in the tall tower rack.

The Gates Solidstateman Limiter is a fun new/old piece that just got cleaned up by Tripoint Audio.

12.31.09
This is the last day to book time for $300 per 10hr day.  After today it's $400 per day, $225 per 1/2 day and $50/hr.

12.29.09
The new pres are wired in and the new mics are getting tried.  The gear list just keeps getting better and better.  It's getting to be that there isn't a sound we can't find.

12.13.09
We got some new mics.  Well, Skyler did, but they live at the studio.  Anyway, we got a couple more 421's and a MD441.  Fun new toys to add to the expanding arsenal.

12.06.09
Holy cow, everyone is trying to finish up their stuff this week.  The Nadas, Nicholas the Saint, and Cashes Rivers are all finishing this month.  It sounds like it's official, there are some API's coming our way.  That just equals more pre choices.  Our old Gates Limiter just got back from service and is crushing nicely.  Time is ticking down to get this years' prices next year.

12.02.09
The year is wrapping up with a bang.  The schedule is so busy for the next little bit that I foresee real actual street fights with brass knuckles and everything over studio time.  Nicholas the Saint is wrapping up their Christmas EP.  The Nadas are wrapping up the Almanac Project with is a race against the clock.  Chashes Rivers is going to be done by the end of this month.  Steve Robinson and the Foundation are plugging away.  Comrade Generator just came in to do an EP demo combo thingy.  I think that's about it for right now.

11.16.09
We have good news and bad news.  The good news is that new pictures are up.  The dust has finally settled from the great upgrade of 2009, and we got some new pictures taken by Jason Walsmith.
The bad news is we are going to up the prices a little starting in 2010.  It's mostly in the day rate.  The day rate will start being $400 per 10hr day, $225 5hr half day and good old $50 per hour.  The tape fees will be $50 if you provide a 1/2" reel or tape or $100 to use our tape.  This tape charge is a once per project, not per session.

11.04.09
The remixing of some or all of The Nadas Almanac tracks has begun.  Those songs are getting touched with some of the new gear that wasn't here when we started the project.  Skyler went and got some cubicle walls to use as some gobos around the live room.

11.02.09
Mr. Baber's Neighbors came in for a tester day.  They are straigh up bluegrass.  We played with tape, one mic, and multitracking to try and find the right little combo for them, and to see if we can all work together.  Brandon and Micah are steadily plugging away at Cashes Rivers.  They are also working with The Nadas with some fresh ideas to finish up the Almanac Project.  Steve Robinson has some gear in and starting to work on his stuff.

10.01.09
The great upgrade of 2009 is almost done.  All the patchbays are wired, the tape machines, new pres, and comps are all wired.  Half of the new amps and guitars are arriving. There are fresh brains and ideas involved with all of this.  Jon, Brandon, and Micah are designing the whole new system.  We will be getting Mandy Miller to come take some fresh pictures once we get the mess cleaned up and the dust settles.
We just got done working on a move, Janie Jones, during all of this.  Jon Locker worked on set also on sound and teaching Joel Moore to fake play bass.  We also just found out a movie that we recorded the music for, South Dakota, is finally in Post Production and may actually become a movie.

09.24.09
Pictures of the new control room coming soon.  The movie Janie Jones has been doing stuff in the studio and Jon has been working on site.  The 8 channel tape machine has arrived and is all patched in.

09.01.09
I don't even know where to begin.  We have so many new pieces to talk about.  I still need to ask Mandy Miller to come take some good looking pictures, for now this is all you get.  Some models and model numbers you may recognize...1176 x 3, Chandler, Avalon 737, Otari, GATES, old Tascam...these are just to name a few.  We are teaming up with Brandon Darner and the Envy Corps crew to be able to offer The Sonic Factory Super Charged.  The new drum sounds we're getting sound waaaay more expensive than what we charge.  Actors and Actresses from Janie Jones have been in recording vocals.  Bright Giant will be in a lot more now too.  There are all sorts of fun new partnerships starting up.  Better hurry up and book time before it's all gone.

07.29.09
Central Iowa Music Lab was in with some of the students of their Rock Band Camp.  The bands came in and recorded a few songs each.  Check them out hereAnother Nadas song is done for the Almanac Project.

The Nadas's project of other bands playing their songs just finished.  It's out the door to mastering.

07.08.09
Mary McAdams is mixed and sent to mastering.  It's been a few months in the making but it's all done and magic.  The Nadas Crystalline Project will be done soon too.  No new organs this week to report.

06.28.09
BILT Guitars used the studio to shoot a promo/instructional video for their new guitars.  Tyler Thompson Band starts a song for the Crystalline Project tomorrow.  Other random fun stuff going on too.

06.07.09
We have now acquired a Hammond M3 from the lovely and talented Jason Walsmith.  It is currently being housed in "Studio C".  This is a fun piece from the "50's.

06.04.09
Mike Butterworth is starting his version of a Nadas' song for the Crystalline project.  We got a new fantastic marker board that is making a big difference on how efficiently we can get things done.  Another Nadas song for the Almanac project rolled out on time.  Jon is doing some random things for Benjamin Wagner.

05.25.09
All sorts of new projects starting.  Mary McAdams is on the home stretch.  Max Jury is just about done too.  Basically there is nothing crazy new to report, other than we now have Pro Tools 8 and Melodyne.

05.19.09
You will probably have to start calling us The Organ Factory.  We now picked up a pump organ.  That's right and pump organ from 1891 that is in crazy good condition.
